Northside Hospital Cancer Institute is offering a community screening to determine men’s risk for developing prostate cancer on Thursday, August 23, 5:30-8 p.m. at Northside/Alpharetta Medical Campus, 3400 Old Milton Parkway, Building A, Suite 130. Eligibility: men, ages 45-75 with no prior diagnosis of prostate cancer, no prostate exam within the past year. Pre-registration necessary, call 404.531.4444 to schedule an appointment. Ballard Designs, an Atlanta-based, leading home furnishings and décor retailer for 35 years, will open its new flagship store on the Upper Westside Friday, July 13, in the highly anticipated Selig development, The Works, located at 1235 Chattahoochee Avenue, 30318. This 20,000-square-foot store will be the 12th Ballard Designs retail location operating in the United States. As the Ballard Designs flagship store, this location will give Ballard’s loyal followers and those new to the brand a chance to experience the furniture and décor firsthand with a floor plan nearly twice the size of Ballard’s other retail locations. The new flagship store will be stocked with accessories and abundant decor items, such as furniture, lighting and rugs. The current Atlanta Ballard Designs hybrid retail location attached to the corporate headquarters off of Howell Mill Road will close its doors after July 5. The corporate headquarters will expand into that retail space.

As neighbors looked on, Buckhead Coalition President Sam Massell, (seated left), contributes a challenge grant to Peachtree Park Nature Trail & Community Garden President Peter Davis for initial benches installed at the Park’s Darlington Commons Court entranceway. This is a continuation of the Coalition’s Park donations totaling almost $60,000 over the last 12 months. A Coalition mission is to nurture the quality of life of those who live, visit, work, or play in its 28 square miles. The development and maintenance of open-air family-oriented neighborhood spaces is a priority.

Chef Boyd A. Rose and managing partner Paulo Junior are opening their second location of Secreto Southern Kitchen & Bar at 3575 Durden Drive in Brookleigh Marketplace. Secreto is open for lunch weekdays, dinner nightly and brunch on Sunday. Rose’s Southern upbringing and the recipes his mother and grandmother made throughout his childhood inspire him to create soul-satisfying meals for his guests. Since purchasing the Lefont theater in November and renaming it The Springs Cinema & Taphouse, Atlantan Brandt Gully has completely renovated the Sandy Springs theater’s eight auditoriums, including replacing all seats with the city’s only heated luxury recliners, upgrading the sound system, adding larger screens and undertaking a complete restroom renovation. Plans include an extensive lobby redesign with enhanced food offerings and a full bar. This theater has always been known for its quality films.
