If LaVelle Olexa could have brought her New York City apartment with her to Atlanta, she would have. Instead, with the help of Coldwell Bank realtor Lucas Carter, she found an airy Peachtree Street penthouse and created a stunning new home. It wasn’t terribly challenging. She and her husband Ken Greenfield filled the 3,200 square foot apartment with her favorite art and antiques collected from travels in Paris and Hong Kong, precious family keepsakes and beloved books. They have long believed that surrounding themselves with things that have meaning make a home comfortable. And beautiful.
“Our goal was to find a property that was exciting yet elegant. When I first saw this penthouse I knew LaVelle would turn it into a jewel box,” Carter said.
Before moving in, they reconfigured the floor plan, opening the kitchen, laying bright wood floors and even recreating an open staircase like the one in their New York apartment.
With two terraces, west and south-facing, the floor to ceiling windows flood the two-story living room with light most the day. The 24th floor perch offers stunning sunset views over south Buckhead and downtown, the thick treetops offering a lush carpet below. “I love the sunsets here,” LaVelle said. “In New York, we were on the fourth floor and, while I love New York, we just didn’t have these sunsets.” After 30 years in fashion merchandising and public relations in the New York fashion industry, she now enjoys working with her non-profit.
