The unique aesthetics and peaceful environment found at Baker Lanier Salon and Day Spa offer a glimpse into the creators behind it. At the helm and heart, Pattie Lanier has poured herself into building a business with her partner, and together they’ve cultivated a respite for guests to attain beauty and style in a culture of excellence.
That excellence has been a hallmark in the pursuit of beauty and style for Pattie, who began her career in the early 1980s working for a top tier stylist, Don Shaw Hairdressers. What she learned under his energetic and passionate tutelage transformed a “job” of cutting hair into a fabulous career.
In May 1996, Pattie moved to Buckhead and worked for Carter Barnes Hair Artisans, which was located in the upscale Phipps Plaza. This is where she met her business partner, Dennis Baker. Pattie always dreamed of owning her own business. In October 2004, Dennis and Pattie bought a cute salon on a charming street off of Pharr Road, which is just down the street from the luxurious new shops of Buckhead-Atlanta. Work for industry leader Loreal also proved formational in her development as a professional.
Pattie’s passion for her business, clients and industry has taken her all over the world in pursuit of the best products and burgeoning trends to bring home so her clients have access to excellent resources to support their desire to be their best and most stylish. An avid student of all aspects of the business, Pattie has an artist’s gift of observing nuances and details from the world around her and expressing it through her work. From Don Shaw’s cutting edge approach, to Carter Barnes’ sophistication, Pattie finds inspiration in everyone she works with, including the youngest stylist with bright new perspectives.
Last year, Baker Lanier Salon celebrated their 10-year anniversary, with a huge party at the salon featuring wonderful cuisine from Gabe’s of Villa Rica and a 5-piece band.
The success in her professional life is augmented by the support of a close-knit family. Her father and two sisters (Pattie is an identical twin) and five nieces and nephews make up part of the family. She and her husband, Robert, met in 2008, married in 2011 and their three wonderful dogs comprise the rest of their family: Piper, a golden retriever and two Labrador retriever rescues, Miller and Nelson.
In 2009, Pattie’s mom, Frances, was diagnosed with a rare form of dementia, a devastating blow to their family. She describes her mom as a strong woman who persevered heroically through the entire illness. Pattie’s dad took such good care of her mom for many of the years of her illness. The love they had for each other was amazing.
Throughout her illness, Pattie’s mom came in to the salon to have her hair done. The staff and clients watched her gradual decline through the years, but the sadness of the progression turned into something positive. In 2014, Baker Lanier Salon started a team to help fight Alzheimer’s and joined the Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Atlantic Station as a way to give back to Pattie’s mom, and others like her.
Team Baker Lanier Salon, clients and friends have walked for the cause for two years now and have raised more than $17,000. Pattie is thankful to her fabulous and talented staff for all the hard work they did before, during and after the fundraiser.
In June 2015, Frances lost her battle with this horrible disease just three weeks after her 73rd birthday. The funds raised through the Team Walk will help others that are stricken by this disease. Alzheimer’s is one of the top six causes of death in this country; Team Baker Lanier Salon encourages all of Buckhaven to join the next walk in September 2016 to help generate resources to find a cure.
The 26-year Buckhaven resident enjoys enjoys long walks with her husband and dogs. And, she enjoys a sunny Friday afternoon sipping champagne at her favorite spot, Le Bilequet, reminiscent of her travels abroad to Paris in search of the finest for her clients.
