Meet Sean Peterson

Sean is the manager of Road Runner Sports in Buckhead and runs (and actually runs) CARE 5K Charity Run/Walk Events in Atlanta, partnering to plan races to benefit local charities in communities across the country.

BHL When did Road Runner Sports open here?

SP The store opened in April 2011. This was the first Road Runner Sports in the Atlanta area, and there are now two more in Marietta, which opened in 2012, and Alpharetta, which opened just last October. I started managing this store in summer of 2012. We have done so much with local races and charities in the Buckhead area through sponsorships and race packet pick-ups. We also have a charity race program called CARE 5Ks where we partner with local charities to host a 5K. All registration fees and donations from folks who participate, often locals from Buckhead, go straight to the non-profit. We are always looking for new charities to work with. We feel that through our personalized shopping experience at Road Runner Sports, we are able to really impact and positively affect Buckhead’s fitness and running goals in a very personal way. I strive to establish an environment that encourages and supports all types of activity and have really connected with our local customers. I get excited to see our regulars and love to chat about how their races have been or even about life in general!

BHL You live in Midtown, and work here in Buckhead. What do you like about our community?

SP More than anything, I love the food in Buckhead. Buckhead is home to some amazing restaurants and the options are fantastic. King + Duke, Holman and Finch, Farm Burger and now Bartaco are some of my favorites.  Also, having a wonderful workout space in Chastain Park is fantastic. I love to go on runs after work and it’s always nice to run into familiar faces out on the trail.

BHL Do you know any running groups readers can join?

SP  Absolutely! The following groups meet at Road Runner Sports for their runs:

• Black Men Run – The group runs every 3rd Wednesday at 6 p.m.

• MARC (Metro Atlanta Run Club) – The club runs Thursdays at 6 p.m. (co-ed)

• Atlanta Tri Club – The club runs Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. (co-ed)

BHL What else is happening here for runners?

SP  Our goal is to really foster a community feel and encourage all of our customers to come back and participate. Our biggest event is our monthly Adventure Run, which takes place on the third Thursday of the month from April-October. It’s a family-friendly scavenger hunt run, that allows us to partner with other local businesses! It’s free, we raffle off thousands of dollars in prizes, and it’s a ton of fun.
